LA Area Farms to Visit

In an alternate reality, I would be living on a farm on acres of land, growing my own vegetables and tending to a ridiculous amount of animals and living my best Joanna Gaines life in a sea of shiplap. Maybe this is why my kids are obsessed with farms. If you’ve got some farm obsessed kids as well, below are some of our favorites in and around the LA area. These make for great morning or afternoon activities!

Underwood Farms

  • Fees: $5 per person for admission (free for little ones under 2). Check website for latest pricing as it sometimes changes for the holidays or summer weekends.

  • Parking: Lot

  • Address: 3370 Sunset Valley Road, Moorpark, CA

This is a fully working farm with acres of you-pick land growing seasonal produce. My kids LOVE picking the fruits and vegetables out of the ground and have grown such an appreciation for so many different vegetables. We’ve even taken the seeds from some of the vegetables and are attempting to grow our own small garden. Besides the you-pick, the farm has also set up an animal center where you can walk around and see pigs, rabbits, emu, horses, cows, goats and more.

TIP: farm opens at 9 am. We’ve only come right at opening to avoid crowds. Summer will likely be more crowded as folks come for strawberry picking but we love going outside of peak / holiday season.

AMY’s Farm

  • Fees: Donation based to walk the farm on your own. Tours can also be booked for individual households for $100 for up to 10 participants.

  • Parking: Lot

  • Address: 7698 Eucalyptus Avenue, Ontario, CA 91762

This is a fully working polycultural farm focused on sustainable, organic methods to farming. My kids loved walking the grounds and visiting all the animals - chickens, cows, horses, rabbits, pigs, among so many other animals - as well as the small petting zoo. There is also several vegetable gardens and while a produce stand where you can buy some of the fresh produce. There’s also a volunteer program where you and your little ones can learn how to help out on the farm. We’re planning on doing that soon!

Down the street from DeBellis Ranch is this wonderful peach and pear farm. This ranch has seriously spoiled us and we can’t go back to store bought. Love that they don’t use pesticides and have found natural ways to deter pests and birds from eating all the fruit. We’ve been going back often since we know the peach season is so short (too short!!). There’s also a lovely shop with local honey, pies, and gifts sourced from local businesses.
